Which Mat Should I Choose?
At JURU we understand that when you are on your mat, you create a sacred space for yourself and trust that your mat understands your practice. You return to your mat with the same trust and it is this bond you hope to cherish for many years to come. Thus at JURU, we take utmost care to ensure all our mats come with excellent durability and grip and remain absolutely natural. We all have our preferences when it comes to the style of yoga and no matter which style you prefer, we have a mat that best suits your preferences. Below are answers to your questions. You can also hear Puja talk about her favourite JURU mats in the video.
Should I opt for JURU cotton or cork mat?

If you rate the grip on JURU cork mats as 10/10, grip on JURU cotton mats is 7/10. It really depends on what you are looking for… a softer surface or a firm grippy surface.

  • If you are looking for a soft and comfortable surface to practice gentle flow then choose any JURU Cotton mats that come in 4mm, 5mm and 10mm thicknesses. They come with an antislip bottom surface that grips to the floor. These are not reversible but washable.
  • If your preference is Grip and you do not mind a firm surface, then opt for any of 3mm reversible cork mats. You can also consider a lightweight 1mm Traveler edition to use as a mat overlay.
  • And you get both, grip and cushioning if you opt for the Premium Pro or Swarnam edition.
What’s the difference between JURU Cork Mats?

Weight, Color and Thickness are the main differences between the range of cork mats.

JURU Pro series is ideal for those looking at both, GRIP and CUSHIONING. It is 7mm thick and weighs only 2 kg. The top surface provides the same grip as other JURU Cork mats. This mat is not reversible. Available as JURU Pro, Pro Shakti and Pro Chakra edition.

JURU Swarnam series is ideal for those looking for SOFTNESS, GRIP and CUSHIONING! It is lightweight and weighs only 1.5 kg and is 6mm thick. It is truly all in one and comes with a luxurious cork fabric surface which gives all the benefits of our cork mats. It comes in 3 sizes, Regular, Long and Kid’s edition.

Dhyana, Harita and Mandala are all 3mm thick and weigh between 2.2 to 2.5 kg. They are firm and the main difference between them is the color. These mats are reversible. These mats are perfect mats for beach practice! The surface is ideal for sand or even sea water as these are washable.

Tip: If you put the mat to rough use or sweat a lot, darker shades are easier to maintain. Use props like a knee pillow, blanket or folded towels to cushion joints if need be in certain stretches.

Traveler is 1mm thin and weighs 1 kg. It is your best choice if you need a mat overlay or lightweight mat to travel.

Are JURU mats reversible?

Only the 1mm and 3mm thick cork mats are reversible.

Are JURU mats foldable?
The JURU Coton mat (4mm and 5mm thick) is foldable. You can comfortably fold it and store it in a bag when travelling or roll it! The Traveler Cork mat can be gently folded but we do not recommend putting pressure on the folds as being a cork mat, it may tear. Never fold the other JURU cork mats.
What happens when I sweat? Can I use the mat for Hot Yoga or Outdoors?
Yes, you can use the JURU Cork mats in Hot Yoga classes, especially the darker shades as it's easier to maintain for sweaty practices and outdoor use. Remember to wipe the surface with a wet cloth after every sweaty practice.
Regular mats smell after regular use. Will this mat smell?

No, you do not have to worry about breathing in toxic air anymore. JURU Cork mats remain odorless.

What is the life span of cork mats?
If maintained well cork mats can last for decades. In case of damage, they can be easily repaired as well.
What if my cork mat tears?
Don’t worry …you can fix the tear permanently with super glue.
Are all JURU mats washable?
Yes! We recommend using non-toxic detergent to ensure the surface remains as natural as possible.

JURU is a portmanteau of JUte and RUbber and our first mat overlay was made of jute and natural rubber. ‘juu-roo’ also means ‘eureka’, ‘joy’ in a few tribal languages. Instead of crying Eureka we cried JURU! And this is precisely what JURU is – a perfect yoga companion for yogis who wish to choose the eco-friendly path.

We wanted mats and props to reflect and value the peaceful principles that yoga embodies; one of which is to establish perfect harmony with nature. Taking inspiration from some wonderful international eco-yoga brands and from the make-in-India campaign, we launched our first made-in-India anti-slip yoga mat overlay.
